How do the happiest people in the world live?

Have you ever wanted your home to be a collection of what you truly love and is useful too?

My hands are in the air!

As we’re getting into Spring and with every new season it’s a time for a fresh start in many areas of life, especially home.

I want to share with you some of the things that the happiest people in the world do. Yes, the happiest people in the world — the Danish!

They follow a way of living called Hygge (pronounced Hooga).

I started seeing this word all over social media and so I dived a bit deeper. What I found really resonated with me.

In essence, the Hygge way of living and home is taking pleasure in the simple, meaningful things. Think candles, linens, greenery, cozy and warm environments.

Sound good? Yup..it did to me to.

I recently shared some simple ways you can bring this way of life into your homes and heart on CBC’s Our Vancouver.

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Well, there’s no denying it — the holidays are here!

Last weekend, we got our “Griswald Tree” turned on the Christmas tunes and the kids decorated.

One of the things they love the most is pulling out the home made decorations they made in previous years.

They get so excited remembering what they created.

Last week, I shared 3 really easy Christmas Ornament DIY’s on City TV’s Breakfast Television.

My girls made all of these and loved them. Even if you’ve decorated already, it’s not too late to do these simple crafts this weekend — creating memories.

This is my last newsletter of 2016, I want to thank you so much for being part of the Decor With Love community. I believe we all should be inspired with creativity in our homes and life. I hope these weekly tips have done a bit of that for you.

Happy holidays and ‘see’ you in the New year!

Christmas Decor and DIY

Christmas Decor and DIY

I’m shaking things up this week coming to you on a Friday.

The reason why? I want to share a couple exciting things going on around here.

I’ve been listening and what I’m hearing is that you want a place where you can get feedback on your home. Get your questions answered, share ideas and be inspired.

I created just that FOR YOU! I now have a place where you can go for those random home decor questions, get ideas, find inspiration, share DIY’s and holiday specific ideas.

Welcome to the new Decor With Love Facebook Group!

It started just a few days ago and we already have an amazing group of decor seekers in the mix.

I’m going to be doing live Q&A’s, showing you some behind the scenes design work and we have some giveaway’s coming up.

You can join HERE and I look forward to seeing you there!

Reason number 2 is I’ve been a busy little elf the past few weeks prepping a house for a local Christmas event here in Vancouver.

Last week I was on City TV’s Breakfast Television sharing some holiday decor trends and easy ways to decorate your home for the holidays.

Once you’ve had a chance to watch I’d love to hear which is your favourite?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just leave me a comment I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

Halloween Pumpkin Design

Halloween Pumpkin Design

I feel like more and more I’m starting to share all my ‘secrets’ on this newsletter. And don’t judge me but I’ve never loved Halloween.

I know, I know. I think it’s because here in Vancouver it’s usually dark, cold and rainy every year I went out trick or treating as a kid.

But now that I’m a mom, I’ve got to step up my Halloween game. And I can step it up in the decor department.

I say forget the pumpkin carving. So messy and hard to do with young kids. What I think is a better idea and personally more fun is to decorate your pumpkin.

I had so much fun with my kids decorating 4 different pumpkins this year using paint, thumb tacks, craft supplies and tissue paper.

I always have a blast sharing my tips and tricks with the City TV Breakfast Television family.

You can click here to catch the full segment and get inspired for some last minute Halloween ideas!

I’d love to hear from you! What is your favourite way to decorate pumpkins for Halloween?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just hit reply and I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

Have you ever walked into a space and it just doesn’t work?

Things just don’t look right but you’re not able to pinpoint what needs to be changed?

We have all either personally had this problem in our home or seen it and most commonly it’s in condos.

They can be some of the most challenging for layout, function, colour scheme and creating character when decorating.

There is a formula and some design principles I use and want to share.

Last week on City TV’s Breakfast Television I shared my Favourite Condo Decorating Tips along w

Have a look and please share with your family and friends who live in a condo, or townhouse or house for that matter, and could benefit from this.

Let me know if you plan on using any of these tips in your space? I’d love to hear from you!

Mother’s Day Gifts DIY

Mother’s Day Gifts DIY

Mom, this newsletter is for you but more specifically for you to pass along to the hubs.

Does this sound familiar to you? You mention “wow, next week is Mother’s Day!.” Your husband has a blank and sort of panicked look on his face.

The kids chime in with ideas of grand creations and gifts. You may now see a bead of sweat coming down your husband’s face.

It’s kinda familiar, right?

Well, I am here to help all those dads who want give their wife something special, help the kids create their masterpieces, but may not subscribe to Martha Stewart Living.

Today, I shared 5 Mother’s Day Gifts DIY’s for the Dad’s on Breakfast Television. You could casually forward him this email…subtle hints are always the best 🙂

Once you’ve had a chance to watch, I’m curious to hear from you:

What is your favourite Mother’s Day gift you’ve received? I’d love to hear about it so please leave me a comment.

Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week!

How To Display Kids Art

How To Display Kids Art

I am having a full circle moment as I write this newsletter.

You know those moments where you connect the dots from the past and where you are now – and it all makes sense (and kinda gives you the chills!).

I was cruising You Tube and Instagram – as we all do and you know when you look up one thing and it leads you down the rabbit hole of time wasting. Well, instead it led me to once again discover Darcy Miller – this amazing artist who inspired me with her DIY’s about 8 years ago.

From seeing her work, I started creating shadow boxes but soon stopped as life / having babies / starting a business kind of took up all my time.

Well, the full circle is I have been now creating DIY segments for Breakfast Television Vancouver. My hope is that these nuggets of fun inspire you to get creative.

I’ve had to brush up my DIY skills and I consider myself the DIY’er for non-DIY’ers. It’s gotta be 3 things: easy, stylish and inexpensive to be approved by me 🙂

Last week I shared 6 Ways to Display Your Kids Art. If your kids are anything like mine then you know the overwhelming amount of art they create and how it leaves us parents wondering what to do with it?

Happy DIY’ing….

Once you’ve had a chance to watch, I’m curious to hear from you:

Have you had any full circle moments? I’d love to hear about them so please leave me a comment below.

Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week!

Spring Break Boredom Busters

Spring Break Boredom Busters

So we are officially in Spring Break season around here till the end of the month!

The other day my hubs and I took the girls to a movie. We were so excited to all see a movie as a family.  After movie tickets, popcorn and drinks it was a $68 date!

So, it got me thinking there has got to be ways to keep the kiddos busy, while having fun and learning, without spending a ton.

I went into research mode to find some engaging and easy activities that we can do with the kiddos or they can do on their own and we can have a some quiet time. I found 5 great Spring Break Boredom Busters that I plan on using and I hope you find helpful as well.

It was super fun to show these on Breakfast Television yesterday and I included the video below with all the details for each project.

I’d love to hear about your favourite Spring Break activity? Leave me a comment below.

Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week!
