Patio Decorating Ideas

Patio Decorating Ideas

Okay — it’s here! Well, almost. Summer is literally right around the corner (though us in  Vancouver are finding that hard to believe).

It’s time to extend our spaces and enjoy the outdoors. For me outdoor / summer entertaining is my favourite. It’s more relaxed and feels less pressure to throw the ‘perfect dinner party.’

It’s also a time to get creative with our outdoor living space, whether it’s a big or small. I think it’s an opportunity to try something new. Maybe it’s introducing colour or dipping your toe in a completely different style. It feels a little less non-committal when it comes to the outside.

In today’s #DecorWithLove TV I’m sharing some of my favourite tips to get you inspired with your outdoor space. I’d love for you to let me know if you implement any of these ideas!

Spring Crafts For Kids

Spring Crafts for Kids

Well, for many of us it’s Spring Break time for the kids.

I’m going to be honest. It’s a juggle. Keeping the littles occupied and having fun while trying to still get things done.

No matter the age of the kids getting them using their creativity is one of my favourite things.

So I took some ideas to my board of kid directors and found 4 Spring Break Boredom Busters that my kids love and I hope yours do too.

I share them this week with City TV’s Breakfast Television. You can also witness my live DIY blunders — kids are much better at these than me!

Happy Crafting!

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Well, there’s no denying it — the holidays are here!

Last weekend, we got our “Griswald Tree” turned on the Christmas tunes and the kids decorated.

One of the things they love the most is pulling out the home made decorations they made in previous years.

They get so excited remembering what they created.

Last week, I shared 3 really easy Christmas Ornament DIY’s on City TV’s Breakfast Television.

My girls made all of these and loved them. Even if you’ve decorated already, it’s not too late to do these simple crafts this weekend — creating memories.

This is my last newsletter of 2016, I want to thank you so much for being part of the Decor With Love community. I believe we all should be inspired with creativity in our homes and life. I hope these weekly tips have done a bit of that for you.

Happy holidays and ‘see’ you in the New year!

Christmas Decor and DIY

Christmas Decor and DIY

I’m shaking things up this week coming to you on a Friday.

The reason why? I want to share a couple exciting things going on around here.

I’ve been listening and what I’m hearing is that you want a place where you can get feedback on your home. Get your questions answered, share ideas and be inspired.

I created just that FOR YOU! I now have a place where you can go for those random home decor questions, get ideas, find inspiration, share DIY’s and holiday specific ideas.

Welcome to the new Decor With Love Facebook Group!

It started just a few days ago and we already have an amazing group of decor seekers in the mix.

I’m going to be doing live Q&A’s, showing you some behind the scenes design work and we have some giveaway’s coming up.

You can join HERE and I look forward to seeing you there!

Reason number 2 is I’ve been a busy little elf the past few weeks prepping a house for a local Christmas event here in Vancouver.

Last week I was on City TV’s Breakfast Television sharing some holiday decor trends and easy ways to decorate your home for the holidays.

Once you’ve had a chance to watch I’d love to hear which is your favourite?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just leave me a comment I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

Halloween Pumpkin Design

Halloween Pumpkin Design

I feel like more and more I’m starting to share all my ‘secrets’ on this newsletter. And don’t judge me but I’ve never loved Halloween.

I know, I know. I think it’s because here in Vancouver it’s usually dark, cold and rainy every year I went out trick or treating as a kid.

But now that I’m a mom, I’ve got to step up my Halloween game. And I can step it up in the decor department.

I say forget the pumpkin carving. So messy and hard to do with young kids. What I think is a better idea and personally more fun is to decorate your pumpkin.

I had so much fun with my kids decorating 4 different pumpkins this year using paint, thumb tacks, craft supplies and tissue paper.

I always have a blast sharing my tips and tricks with the City TV Breakfast Television family.

You can click here to catch the full segment and get inspired for some last minute Halloween ideas!

I’d love to hear from you! What is your favourite way to decorate pumpkins for Halloween?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just hit reply and I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

DIY Valentine Gifts and Decor

DIY Valentine Gifts and Decor

So I heard that there is a school in Ontario that is banning Valentine’s Day! Not sure all the reasons, but I think it has to do with different cultural celebrations.

Got me thinking what I feel about this so called holiday. I actually got engaged on Valentines Day. My hubs now kinda cringes at the potential cheese factor of that now, but I think it was lovely.

That being said, we don’t do anything huge for the occasion now. My kids were also asking what I was getting them for Valentines Day which to be honest I don’t really think I ‘should’ be buying gifts.

So before you think I’ve turned into a love day scrooge, I have some thoughts. What about going back to the basics and doing something from the heart.

This year my girls and I did some valentine crafting and it was a special way to celebrate without breaking the bank and creating things we can use around the house.

You know I’m the DIY’er for Non-DIY’ers so I’ve got 3 super simple V-Day crafts you can do this weekend that are great for kids and as adult gifts.

I will also be sharing a few more ideas tomorrow on City TV’s Breakfast Television at 8:40am. The replay is usually on the website.

I’d love to hear your favourite easy ideas from Valentines! Leave me a comment below.

Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week!

Christmas Tree Ornaments – DIY

Christmas Tree Ornaments – DIY

I can’t believe it’s 3 days away! Is it just me or does it always feel like Christmas starts so early now but then sneaks up so fast?

My goal until January 4th is to ‘try’ to unplug, recharge, connect with my family, sleep, read and hopefully ski.

With the kidlets off school I know we are all looking for activities to keep them busy this week. Most of you probably have your tree already decorated, but I’ve got some super simple decorations you can do as a family with stuff you may have already around the house.

I’m also so excited that I got to share this with our local news channel, here in Vancouver – Breakfast Television. Stay tuned next week as we may be cooking up some New Years DIY!

Thank-you for reading my newsletter, watching my videos, sending me feedback of things you’ve implemented or what has inspired you. It means the world to me and I will continue to provide as much value and inspiration as possible in 2016. Happy Holidays everyone!

Always feel free to reach out with any design challenges as you may see the answer in a future video. I also included a link to my survey if you didn’t have a chance to fill it out last week so I can serve you better.

Mason Jar Snow Globes For Christmas – DIY

Mason Jar Snow Globes For Christmas – DIY

So this past weekend was the Christmas decorating and I’ve lost all control. I mean ALL control!

My girls are 4 and 7 years old and they completely took over this year. All my ‘fancy’ decorations are over on the tree I did for the Sutton Hotel this year, so they crafted and hunted what they think would work from the bottom of the bin.

I’m actually chuckling as I write this because as I ‘designer’ my house looks like a Christmas decor tragedy – but it’s filled with lots of love.

Along with the decorating, we did a little crafting too. We made super SIMPLE mason jar snow globes. These are cute, easy and a project suitable for a lot of ages.

My girls make a special appearance in this week’s video. Watch my little one’s face throughout – she’s priceless.
