How do the happiest people in the world live?

Have you ever wanted your home to be a collection of what you truly love and is useful too?

My hands are in the air!

As we’re getting into Spring and with every new season it’s a time for a fresh start in many areas of life, especially home.

I want to share with you some of the things that the happiest people in the world do. Yes, the happiest people in the world — the Danish!

They follow a way of living called Hygge (pronounced Hooga).

I started seeing this word all over social media and so I dived a bit deeper. What I found really resonated with me.

In essence, the Hygge way of living and home is taking pleasure in the simple, meaningful things. Think candles, linens, greenery, cozy and warm environments.

Sound good? Yup..it did to me to.

I recently shared some simple ways you can bring this way of life into your homes and heart on CBC’s Our Vancouver.

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Christmas Ornaments DIY

Well, there’s no denying it — the holidays are here!

Last weekend, we got our “Griswald Tree” turned on the Christmas tunes and the kids decorated.

One of the things they love the most is pulling out the home made decorations they made in previous years.

They get so excited remembering what they created.

Last week, I shared 3 really easy Christmas Ornament DIY’s on City TV’s Breakfast Television.

My girls made all of these and loved them. Even if you’ve decorated already, it’s not too late to do these simple crafts this weekend — creating memories.

This is my last newsletter of 2016, I want to thank you so much for being part of the Decor With Love community. I believe we all should be inspired with creativity in our homes and life. I hope these weekly tips have done a bit of that for you.

Happy holidays and ‘see’ you in the New year!

Christmas Decor and DIY

Christmas Decor and DIY

I’m shaking things up this week coming to you on a Friday.

The reason why? I want to share a couple exciting things going on around here.

I’ve been listening and what I’m hearing is that you want a place where you can get feedback on your home. Get your questions answered, share ideas and be inspired.

I created just that FOR YOU! I now have a place where you can go for those random home decor questions, get ideas, find inspiration, share DIY’s and holiday specific ideas.

Welcome to the new Decor With Love Facebook Group!

It started just a few days ago and we already have an amazing group of decor seekers in the mix.

I’m going to be doing live Q&A’s, showing you some behind the scenes design work and we have some giveaway’s coming up.

You can join HERE and I look forward to seeing you there!

Reason number 2 is I’ve been a busy little elf the past few weeks prepping a house for a local Christmas event here in Vancouver.

Last week I was on City TV’s Breakfast Television sharing some holiday decor trends and easy ways to decorate your home for the holidays.

Once you’ve had a chance to watch I’d love to hear which is your favourite?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just leave me a comment I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

Halloween Pumpkin Design

Halloween Pumpkin Design

I feel like more and more I’m starting to share all my ‘secrets’ on this newsletter. And don’t judge me but I’ve never loved Halloween.

I know, I know. I think it’s because here in Vancouver it’s usually dark, cold and rainy every year I went out trick or treating as a kid.

But now that I’m a mom, I’ve got to step up my Halloween game. And I can step it up in the decor department.

I say forget the pumpkin carving. So messy and hard to do with young kids. What I think is a better idea and personally more fun is to decorate your pumpkin.

I had so much fun with my kids decorating 4 different pumpkins this year using paint, thumb tacks, craft supplies and tissue paper.

I always have a blast sharing my tips and tricks with the City TV Breakfast Television family.

You can click here to catch the full segment and get inspired for some last minute Halloween ideas!

I’d love to hear from you! What is your favourite way to decorate pumpkins for Halloween?

If you have a ‘design dilemna’ just hit reply and I’d be happy to answer on a future video!

Living Room – Get the Look for Less

Thank-you for the great response to “Get the Look.” I’m so happy it inspired you!

Decor With Love TV will be back, but taking a little break to come up with great new content. I have some ideas brewing on how I can provide more value to you!

In the meantime, I will still be popping in your Inbox and feel free to reach out with any questions.

So today’s Get Your Look is a fun and whimsical living room. I decorated this space a couple years, it was featured in Style At Home Magazine, and it’s still one of my personal favourites.

Let’s break it down (click on links for  similar items):

The Couch: I chose a chaise for this room. This gives more seating and also a great place to rest.

The Rug: This similar rug has the colours of the room with subtle hits of grey, cream and blue.

The Chairs: A personal favourite. These velvet beauties really frame the room. I think with occasional chairs you can really make a statement.

Coffee Table: We chose a functional white washed wood coffee table. I believe all spaces should have a hit of wood in them.

Pillows: Here is where we get to have fun. A pop of colour makes such a bold and fun statement.

Gallery Wall: This one was from a trip to Homesense. The reason it works is I kept it to one colour- black. I also added some art elements like the letters and kept each picture about 2-3 inches apart.

Side Tables: I’m partial to gold. As with every room needing wood, I think every room needs some gold.

Karla

Style at Home Bedroom – Get the Look for Less

Style at Home Bedroom – Get the Look for Less

I thought I’d try something a bit different this week.

Before I “officially” started in design one of my favourite things to do was find inspiration.

And one of my favourite ways to do this was with blogs/websites that shared their journey and then gave me the tools to implement ideas.

A condo I decorated was featured in Style At Home Magazine for their current July issue. I’m so grateful and excited with the inspiration it seems to be providing and the requests of where I got certain items etc.

So I’ve to created a little “Get The Look” with info on sources, some suggestions and an inspiration board.

We are going to start with the bedroom and how to ‘get the look.’

The Bedroom in Style At Home:

Style at Home, July 2016

Let’s break it down:

The Bed:

I love an upholstered headboard. If you are looking to add softness to a room this is the way to do it. The bed should be your focal point to the room. We had a custom bed made for this project but I provided an inspiration and source below.

Bedding:

I can’t get enough of white bedding. Don’t be scared. It can be washed. It creates a serene, calm look and you can change up the decor around it so easily. This bedding was from Homesense but I provided another option in the link below.

Pillows:

Many men will be happy to hear me say I’m not a big fan of 100 throw pillows on a bed. I actually like to keep it simple to about  3 pillows.

Side tables:

These one’s have a sort of mid-century vibe and are from Westelm. What I like about this is that it adds a bit of masculine lines to balance out other feminine items.

Lamps:

This is where you can show your personality. I chose something sculptural. I like that it adds a different shape and element to the room.

Here’s a little Inspiration Board with similar items and links below. Have fun…xo
