White Home Decor

White Home Decor

One of the big colour trends of 2017 has been dark colours — greens, purples, blacks.

As much as I love this trend, and it really does work in the right space, nothing can replace my love for white.

The reason. It’s timeless. It opens up a space. It creates cohesiveness. It goes with any style. And it goes with almost anything else you put with it.

Have I sold you on white yet?

But, choosing a white to paint your walls, furniture or kitchen is a whole other ball of wax (that’s still an expression right!?).

White, like every colour, has undertones. Pesky undertones. It could be yellow, blue, purple.

So how do you choose the right white and make sure that it doesn’t look cold and sterile (everyone fears this but trust me white done right is one of the warmest colours to choose).

I created a little video for you of how I personally decorate with white and then below are some of my favourite whites and why they work!

Favour: if you think any of your decor loving friends who struggle with colour and would like this info, please feel free to pass it along…xo Karla

Okay — it’s here! Well, almost. Summer is literally right around the corner (though us in  Vancouver are finding that hard to believe).

It’s time to extend our spaces and enjoy the outdoors. For me outdoor / summer entertaining is my favourite. It’s more relaxed and feels less pressure to throw the ‘perfect dinner party.’

It’s also a time to get creative with our outdoor living space, whether it’s a big or small. I think it’s an opportunity to try something new. Maybe it’s introducing colour or dipping your toe in a completely different style. It feels a little less non-committal when it comes to the outside.

In today’s #DecorWithLove TV I’m sharing some of my favourite tips to get you inspired with your outdoor space. I’d love for you to let me know if you implement any of these ideas!

Kids Room Design

Kids Room Design

Erin Ireland Nursery 1

I wrapped up a super fun project about 6 months ago but sharing it now as the photos were ‘under wraps’ until they were released for Western Living Magazine.

I completely fell in love with this room. All the texture, neutral colours, hits of green and wood makes for a room this little girl can have for years! Hey — I’d sleep here!

It made me really think about kids rooms and how honestly, we (me included) spend a lot of time and money decorating them for the baby stage, then toddler stage, kids, pre-teen…yikes!

Instead how about starting with a room kids can grow into and add their personality as they grow and evolve.

You can see more of the photos here…enjoy!

How To Choose Curtains

How to Choose Curtains

Curtains — one of those things that can either make or break a room! Why? Because done right and they add texture, warmth, and dimension to your space. Done wrong…and it can make even the nicest of spaces feel a little off. I have a few tips so you can ensure to get the most of our your curtains in today’s #DecorWithLove TV!

Kitchen Design Ideas 2017

Kitchen Design Ideas 2017

We’ve all heard this before — kitchen and bathroom renos are the best bang for you buck!

It’s really true. Nothing makes us feel better than a beautifully designed kitchen.

The thing is though, making those decisions are BIG decisions and EXPENSIVE decisions.

In my house we have a ‘newer’ kitchen but it’s materials I would not have personally chose.

And even though I love design (obviously) I still find our future kitchen renovation a bit overwhelming.

The look, feel, finishes — it can be a lot of decisions and one’s you will hopefully not be changing anytime soon.

This year I’ve been working on a few kitchen concepts. A concept is where we get the overall look and feel for the space and then get down to the fun stuff of choosing materials.

I have a process that works and I want to share it with you. I’ve also included a little freebie for you at the end of the video 🙂

Stay tuned for next week’s newsletter as I’ve been working on changing the look and adding new content. There will of course be videos but also project updates, inspiration pics and other surprises to help you create #DecorWithLove!

Ikea Design Hacks | Part 2 | 2017

Ikea Design Hacks | Part 2 | 2017

So I have been reading this book called the Less of More.

It’s about how we can live with less ‘stuff’ in our lives to find our true passions.

Of course as someone who loves design and trends this can be a bit of a scary thought.

But…I am really leaning into this concept. Working with what I have and making it better is a fun way to do this and get creative.

One of the most popular videos are the one’s where I share a so called ‘hack!’

I think the reason is we all want to add new things to our home and life and if we can find inexpensive ways to do that allow us to get creative and do it ourself it makes it even that much more special.

So…this week’s #DecorWithLove TV is 4 simple items that you may have already, and how you can elevate them in your home.

Home Tour 2017

Home Tour 2017

Do you ever wonder how to finish your space? Or about creating a consistent colour palette that flows room to room?

One of the biggest challenges I hear is “How do I pull together a room?”

I can relate. Sometimes our spaces are a mis-match of furniture, colour and style.

As much as I can try to explain it to you, a visual story is always the best. Plus getting to peak inside someone’s home if fun too 🙂

So in today’s #DecorWithLove TV I’m taking you on a little Home Tour.

This was one of my very first and still favourite projects. It was also the first time my work was published in a national magazine — Style at Home.

There are a few tips and tricks I used to decorate this space that I hope will inspire you.

And make sure to watch until the very end because I have a free giveaway you won’t want to miss out on.

If you think any of your friends or family would benefit from my weekly decor tips, feel free to send them this newsletter.

Wallpaper Design Tips

Wallpaper Design Tips

It’s been an interesting time!

There is a mix of design projects going on right now and I’m realizing more and more “That’s how I like it” (cue the Bruno Mars song). Having different projects that challenge me in creative ways.

What I also know is you can bring creativity forward in so many different ways. Your business, your day to day, hobbies and for sure your HOME.

I want you to get inspired — that’s why I do what I do.

One of my favourite things is choosing wallpaper with a client. I think I have a new ‘rule.’ Every space must have WALLPAPER somewhere!

The reason? It creates so much character, personality, texture and honestly just overall goodness to your home.

So if you’ve thought about wallpaper, but were a bit scared, I hear you!

It’s a bit overwhelming and feels like a major commitment. But, wallpaper has come a long way and it’s not the wallpaper of the 80’s anymore.

In today’s new #DecorWithLove TV I’ll share 3 things you need to consider before you purchase your wallpaper!

Make sure to watch till the end because I have a giveaway for you and it’s a goodie!

How do the happiest people in the world live?

Have you ever wanted your home to be a collection of what you truly love and is useful too?

My hands are in the air!

As we’re getting into Spring and with every new season it’s a time for a fresh start in many areas of life, especially home.

I want to share with you some of the things that the happiest people in the world do. Yes, the happiest people in the world — the Danish!

They follow a way of living called Hygge (pronounced Hooga).

I started seeing this word all over social media and so I dived a bit deeper. What I found really resonated with me.

In essence, the Hygge way of living and home is taking pleasure in the simple, meaningful things. Think candles, linens, greenery, cozy and warm environments.

Sound good? Yup..it did to me to.

I recently shared some simple ways you can bring this way of life into your homes and heart on CBC’s Our Vancouver.

Spring Crafts For Kids

Spring Crafts for Kids

Well, for many of us it’s Spring Break time for the kids.

I’m going to be honest. It’s a juggle. Keeping the littles occupied and having fun while trying to still get things done.

No matter the age of the kids getting them using their creativity is one of my favourite things.

So I took some ideas to my board of kid directors and found 4 Spring Break Boredom Busters that my kids love and I hope yours do too.

I share them this week with City TV’s Breakfast Television. You can also witness my live DIY blunders — kids are much better at these than me!

Happy Crafting!
