My 5 Step Design Checklist

My 5 Step Design Checklist

I want to thank-you for being part of my community. I do my best to provide value every week with a bit of decor inspiration that I hope sparks creativity.

One thing we all have in common is we live somewhere. Doesn’t matter big or small or whether we consider ourselves design savvy or not, I think we all want a space we love and makes our life just a little bit better when we walk in the door.

Having been on both sides of this I wanted to share a little of my journey and give you something I think will be very helpful.

Nine years ago we moved to a new house. I was obsessed. It was our first home and a total dream space for us.

I remember my husband and I used to drive by and stop the car in front of the house saying “I can’t believe it’s ours!”

When we moved in we brought our furniture from our condo. It sort of worked. It looked okay? It sort of fit.

It wasn’t SO bad that I felt like I needed to change it. Isn’t that the way with most things in life — If they aren’t terrible, we just leave them, but it doesn’t mean they are as great as they could be.

Fast forward, we did a home exchange in Malibu. I remember walking into the home we stayed at and being blown away. It really sparked the change I feel design can have in someone’s day to day life.

This wasn’t a big fancy house. It was a small one-level home, but the way it was decorated with such thoughtfulness, meaning and attention detail blew me away.

I knew exactly who this family was by their house.

And, it led me to think if they knew who I was when staying at my house? Probably not.

Fast Forward again, the experience I had in Malibu led me to dig in further for my passion for design and what the elements created a warm, welcoming, finished space….

Well, after many of design clients, rooms, challenges, styling for magazine shoots (P.S. I have a new Style At Home feature coming very soon!), I found the elements every room needs.

And I use this checklist when I decorate, no matter what the style is.

If you feel your room falls flat. If it could be more welcoming. If you wonder how a room looks ‘magazine ready’ then you will enjoy this.

Below is a video and cheat sheet of the 5 things I make sure every room has.

Use this checklist to go through your home room by room, do an evaluation and update the piece or pieces that may be missing.

Hope you enjoyed the video.

Organizing Your Home: Secrets to Stylishly Living Clutter Free – Part 1

Organizing Your Home: Secrets to Stylishly Living Clutter Free – Part 1

I have a question for you?

Do you dream of organized living where everything has it’s place? A clutter free space that is relaxing and soothing?

I can totally relate.

I TRY to be organized. I think we all can agree we function best in an organized environment. But it’s frustrating when you work so hard to put systems in place but can’t always get the rest of the family to follow them. Sound familiar?

Full confession. This is a skill that doesn’t come naturally to me and I’m constantly learning.

The thing is, I want organization to look good too. What I mean by that is there are great things for organizing, but let’s face it, who wants some of these plastic bins etc in our living rooms.

So as we go on this journey together, I have found 9 things that look GOOD and FUNCTION well. Oh yes, I did.

Here is Part 1 of a 3 Part “Organizing Your Home: Secrets to Stylishly Living Clutter Free.”  The first video has 3 tips to get you started and to make it even easier I included some of my favourites in each category below this video as a BONUS to get you started.

Mom, this newsletter is for you but more specifically for you to pass along to the hubs.

It’s kinda familiar, right?

Well, I am here to help all those dads who want give their wife something special, help the kids create their masterpieces, but may not subscribe to Martha Stewart Living.

Today, I shared 5 Mother’s Day Gifts DIY’s for the Dad’s on Breakfast Television. You could casually forward him this email…subtle hints are always the best 🙂
