Design Trends for 2016

Design Trends for 2016

This newsletter has nothing to do with today’s video. Well, I shouldn’t say nothing. The reason I do videos weekly is to inspire and provoke creativity.

That’s the “why” behind my daily career choices. Does it light me up and inspire others?

And to me inspiring others is about empowering girls. Starting with the 2 little gals in my home and I hope to show then we can make an impact beyond ourselves.

I’m certainly not perfect about this in any way but have taken some small steps which have made a huge impact on me personally.

For every E-Decor, a portion goes to CARE to support and empower girls around the world. For what might be the cost of lunch for us can help a girl go to school for a year or buy her supplies.

For those of you in Vancouver, on Sunday, March 6th CARE is having their annual Walk In Her Shoes
which challenges people to walk 10,000 steps, the distance many women and girls in developing countries travel each day for basic necessities, like water, food, and firewood.

Now for little creative inspiration, this week’s video shows you easy and inexpensive ways you can incorporate 2016 trends into your home. I’ll give you a hint….vases with spray paint can do wonders!

I’d love to hear what is your favourite trend this year? Please leave me a comment below.

Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week!

Bedroom Ideas – Master Bedroom

Bedroom Ideas – Master Bedroom

Answer me honestly, would you be sort of horrified if someone saw you bedroom?

If you answered yes, you are not alone. Even though we all know that sleep and downtime are one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, decorating our bedroom never falls high on the priority list.

But I’ll let you in on a little secret. I see clients happiest when they choose E-Decor for their master bedroom.  Why? Having a bedroom you love really creates a happier life. You can relax and wake up in a place you can be inspired.

And, you don’t have to spend a lot of money. There are a few common mistakes I see in almost every bedroom where if these 3 things were changed, it would make for a beautiful bedroom.

I will be taking on 2 more E-Decor’s for March, so if you’ve been on the fence about having a room you love without any pressure to buy the furnishings right away, book your spot.

In the meantime, I’ve got the 3 most common bedroom mistakes and how to fix them!

I’d love to hear if you plan on making design changes to your bedroom. Leave me a comment below.

DIY Valentine Gifts and Decor

DIY Valentine Gifts and Decor

So I heard that there is a school in Ontario that is banning Valentine’s Day! Not sure all the reasons, but I think it has to do with different cultural celebrations.

Got me thinking what I feel about this so called holiday. I actually got engaged on Valentines Day. My hubs now kinda cringes at the potential cheese factor of that now, but I think it was lovely.

That being said, we don’t do anything huge for the occasion now. My kids were also asking what I was getting them for Valentines Day which to be honest I don’t really think I ‘should’ be buying gifts.

So before you think I’ve turned into a love day scrooge, I have some thoughts. What about going back to the basics and doing something from the heart.

This year my girls and I did some valentine crafting and it was a special way to celebrate without breaking the bank and creating things we can use around the house.

You know I’m the DIY’er for Non-DIY’ers so I’ve got 3 super simple V-Day crafts you can do this weekend that are great for kids and as adult gifts.

I will also be sharing a few more ideas tomorrow on City TV’s Breakfast Television at 8:40am. The replay is usually on the website.

I’d love to hear your favourite easy ideas from Valentines! Leave me a comment below.

Kids Bedroom Ideas

Kids Bedroom Ideas

Last week was a busy but exhilarating one. You know the kind that uses a lot of emotional energy but in a really good way!

I launched an E-Decor collaboration with Evermodern Home – super excited about this. If you want affordable furniture delivered in days this is the place to go. And if you want my help to design your room, we got you covered. It’s fun to be able to provide this service to you literally from your computer!

Last Friday, a condo project of mine, got photographed to appear in Style At Home Magazine! Eek, very excited about this. It was a great day of styling it up for the shoot and I remembered how much I love the little details that really make a space.

This leads me to this week’s video. One of the spaces we hadn’t done was the kids room in this space. I was able to put it together quite quickly and got me thinking of the common elements needed for kids rooms. This can apply to bedroom and playrooms.

Here are the 5 items that I think every kids room should have along with some great inspiration photos to get you started.

I’d love to hear your favourite tips for decorating your kids room – leave me a comment below.
